We participated in the 24 hour competition again this year and won 1st place and an audience choice award with this.

5 people, 24 hours, 3 minute film
It had to have a cake, a theme of anniversary, and the line “I really wanted to…”

We wanted to do some sort of western mexican romance, and thank goodness Gentry knew some people and had all the cowboy stuff already. It was also great to have a group of people who could help all night so we could work on different aspects simultaneously.

Motion Graphics

These are two motion graphics projects I’ve done for clients, both created in After Effects. Motion graphics may be my most favorite type of video work. I feel like I could watch people’s motion graphics demo reels all day long, and I think I have before.

The video below is heavily influenced by the style of “In Plain English” videos by Common Craft. I actually had added a lot of cool effects and movements, but ultimately took them back off for the sake of cleaner simplicity.

Farewell to Brotherhood

I should warn you: Most of the things I’ve put on the vlog are either funny or lighthearted and this is neither. It’s a tragedy and it’s sad.

This was a short film that Christian Vuissa asked me to make for the 2010 LDS Film Festival. I had to choose a screenplay from all of the 7-page script competition submissions and try to get it made in the 2 weeks before the festival for under $500. I asked Mckay to help me and we decided we wanted to do something serious and difficult since we never really had. It screened at the festival and I still wanted to make some changes and get some music for it. Without a deadline, though, I was constantly prioritizing other projects. So, a year later, here it is for you to see.

We did the 24 hour marathon again this year where you have to make a 3 minute movie in 24 hours with only 5 people. We tried to go for a 90s sitcom style so hopefully that’s obvious.

The requirements this time were to use a dollar, the line “what more can…”, and the theme of generosity. Twenty something other groups participated and some of them were pretty good. It’s always tough to get a good solid product while following the rules.

How to speak German

First, push play and then pause to get the buttons for playback options. Choose 1080p or 720p on the player for it to look decent. If your computer is slower, it will have a hard time playing the larger sizes, though.

If you don’t have glasses and want to watch it in 2D or a different 3D way, click the button that says “3D” on the player and choose the top option that says “(change…)”. Then you can choose what way to view it.

For 2D, I would recommend choosing the “no glasses” option, and then choosing “left only” when you come back to the player. If you are good at the Magic Eye books, you can choose the “no glasses” option and then choose “parallel” when you come back to the video.

This is a German song that I translated to what it sounds like in English. It’s also my first stereoscopic 3D project. Then I drew pictures of the phrases. Here’s the lyrics as I hear them:
